ARTIST INFO

April is National Poetry Month! I want to congratulate the other four Final 5 poets of FAMECAST: JC Reddick, Jaahson, Poetri, and Queen Sheba. Feel free to explore their work and encourage them to keep writing and performing!

ABOUT:
Aaron Johnson likes pinball machines, shortbread cookies, graphic novels, and skateboard competitions. However, Aaron is most likely to found at a poetry slam or rock show, smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee.

As a young teen, he worked at Arby's. It was here that he saw a lefthander chop off his thumb in a roast beef slicer. Being a lefty too, Aaron was permanently scarred for life and began writing and performing poetry.

He is the 2001 International Poetry Interpretation Champion.

He is the 2006 Arcosanti Haiku Champion.

He started the largest Open Mic in Arizona, which boasts an audience of up to 400 people, every Monday, at Applesauce Teahouse in Flagstaff, AZ.

The local entertainment rag "FlagLIVE!" named Aaron 2008's "Best Painfully Honest Poet" and Applesauce Teahouse "Best Weird Scene". Apparently, being honest is weird these days.

Aaron has performed in theatres, bars, poetry slams, high schools, universities, art galleries, comic book stores, street corners, book stores, living rooms, and in 40 states, in just the past three years.

Aaron Johnson is a member of SPOKEN CIRCUS, a three-piece fusion of spoken-word, junkyard folk music, and vaudeville. They will be on tour in the fall of 2008 with VERBOBALA SPOKEN VIDEO.

He lives with his amazing girlfriend, Kristin, who comes out to poetry slams and plays raquetball with him.

Aaron is currently studying the artform of busking, and is practicing his "Green Plastic Army Man" living statue performance for the spring.

Rumor has it, Aaron is living in two cities nowadays: Flagstaff and Phoenix, Arizona. It is also rumored that he will be on tour in May with Danny Sherrard and Myrlin Hepworth in the "FREEBEER POETRY TOUR".

12 Days of Lefty

Dom and I shot a goofy video for Lefty. We decided that it was time to make some people laugh for a change. For those of you that don’t think funny poems are "real" poems.....

Write, write, write

What is spoken word? Couldn't beatboxing be a form of spoken word? Isn't comedy spoken word too? I think it's really interesting that the neo-soul and slam poets have a stronghold on...
