Tinderbox fosters community by providing opportunities to perform, collaborate, and connect within the vibrant NYC music scene. By donating 100 % of net proceeds to organizations involved in helping the next generation of women musicians and writers, Tinderbox strives to ensure that the fire it ignites will long outlive and outgrow the festival itself.

"The outpouring of generosity and excitement for the festival has been amazing. We exceeded our Kickstarter fundraising goal and have secured sponsorships from companies such as Venus Zine, BUST Magazine, and ASCAP," says Alyson Greenfield, founder of the event. "Many incredible people are also volunteering their time and talents, from sound engineers to graphic designers, website problem solvers to photographers, and stage managers to street team members-- and this is one of the most exciting things to me-- the fact that we are actually building a community."

Looking ahead, Alyson and the Tinderbox team plan to take a showcase to the annual SXSW festival in Texas next March in order to begin their national live presence and help create buzz for the second Tinderbox Music Festival to be held in 2011.

The seed for Tinderbox Music Festival was planted when singer/songwriter Alyson Greenfield heard that Lilith Fair was making a comeback in 2010. Alyson decided to start "Dear Lilith Fair 2010," a blog zealously dedicated to getting a spot on the tour. Being named one of The Deli Magazine's "NYC Artists on the Rise," receiving accolades from a myriad of publications such as PASTE Magazine, and having song placements on FOX, Alyson is an esteemed artist in her own right. While blogging, Alyson received so much feedback from women musicians, pushing her to realize that even though she was glad Lilith Fair was returning, even more space was needed to showcase exciting women musicians-- and especially emerging artists.

With the additional experience Alyson gained from helping to set up and book artists for two BUST Magazine sponsored showcases during SXSW 2010, as well as forming a team including Jennifer Newman, entertainment attorney (NY bar admission pending) and singer/songwriter/producer, and Alicia Matusheski, Manager of Business Affairs and Supervising Paralegal at Ritholz Levy Sanders Chidekel & Fields LLP, Tinderbox Music Festival was formed.

September 14th promises to be an exotic adventure at Brooklyn's Pete's Candy Store when singer/songwriter Maya Solovey hits the stage to take the audience on a journey to the land of Saudade, the theme for the evening. Be prepared for a night of reminiscence, love and passion as you let your thoughts go and flow while Solovey romances you with Brazilian and Latin music. To complete the experience, Solovey is bringing arepas and plantains to seduce your sense of taste prior to the performance, while you pamper yourself with the purchase of your favorite drink from the bar.

"The theme for the night -- Saudade -- is something I've always wanted to do," Solovey said. There's not usually enough time in a normal night for me to play all of my songs in Portuguese and Spanish, and my hope is that this will allow a new kind of fluidity to the evening. It's a different thing when you listen to music in a language you don't understand, because then, you listen to what the voice is saying. "Saudade" is one of the most important themes to Brazilian music and culture, and while it is said to be indescribable, the closest description is "the love that stays" when someone goes away. With this music and with this entire night, I hope to carry that theme in a way that envelops and enraptures the heart, as well as the senses."

What is an absolute miniscule frame of pop music today, Crushing Juliet has a giant voice in so many ways. The Memphis, Tennessee based rock band, is an accessible alternative pop rock act, not only in terms of the styling, their (Crushing Juliet) debut CD, is the straight up approach to pop music today. As a product and means of expression, the debut album is flawlessly put together, with great production (David Cowell), professionally packaged, showing off what is a prized asset — for Sunset Records. NYC Restaurant Turns Gallery: Arte Hispano En Gonzalez Y Gonzalez

A new type of art gallery called "Arte Hispano" has emerged at Gonzalez y Gonzalez, one of downtown Manhattan's hottest destinations. The NoHo-based, Mexican restaurant, bar & nightclub is putting a different spin on New York's art scene by featuring the works of local, up-&-coming Latino artists. Open to the public, Thursdays through Saturdays in the live music room, Arte Hispano will be exhibiting the works of a different artist every three months. The gallery is curated by salsa music historian Jose Abando (salsasight.com).

"We view the Arte Hispano gallery as an way to support and provide exposure for Latino artists while giving our clientele the ability to enjoy beautiful works of art," said Sounni de Fontenay, General Manager for Gonzalez y Gonzalez.

The inaugural launch of Arte Hispano features the work of El Salvadorian artist Zoila Minaya, whose five woodcut prints are based on folklores & mythologies from her home country.

"The work in this series of woodcuts sprang forth from my interest in my culture's rich history and legends," explained Zoila. "I was born in El Salvador and always have had pride in my culture. Most of my work including my present efforts reflects my cultural heritage. My current woodcut prints are based on well known Salvadoran mythologies. The literary works of the famous Salvadoran author Dr. Efrain Mendez proved to be a valuable source."

ABOUT ZOILA MINAYA

Zoila Minaya was born in El Salvador in 1983. She studied Visual arts at Herbert Lehman College from 2001 to 2006 and in the spring of 2010 obtained her graduate degree in arts at Herbert Lehman College. Zoila began exhibiting in the mid-to-late 1990s and in 1999 she created a mural painting for the Crayola company who was apart of a high school program, New York City. Since then she has been showing her artwork in different galleries.

Zoila textile work was shown at The High School of Fashion Industries Gallery, New York, New York . In the year 2000 she obtained the tittle of president of the art gallery in The High School of Fashion Industries. For three consecutive years she showed oil painting and ceramic art pieces at the Herbert Lehman College Gallery, Bronx, NYC. In 2004 she became the Vice-president of the Herbert Lehman College Gallery, Bronx, NYC. In the Spring of 2009 she exhibited a Woodcut print at Herbert Lehman College, Bronx, New York. During the Summer of 2009 Zoila performed as a face painter and exhibited a mural in the Hacia Afuera Festival coordinated by Art for Change. Further more, during the Fall of the same year Zoila donated a Woodcut print for the Art for Change a Nonprofit Foundation who took place in Julia de Burgos Cultural Art Center.

During the Spring of 2010 Zoila was part of the 25th Anniversary Salon show at Lehman College Art Gallery in which she sold one of her paintings; Zoila was also part of the MA/MFA Thesis Exhibition Diverse Vocabulary in Lehman College. Tomas Doncker Invited To Play Shanghai World Expo American Pavilion

Global soul musician Tomas Doncker has been invited to perform the American Pavilion at the World EXPO 2010 Shanghai on September 29 and 30 as part of his "Small World" tour. Presented by online media site MusicDish*China and St. Barths-based BAZ BAR, the tour opens with performances at the first International New Folk Music Festival and 12th China Shanghai International Arts Festival Performing Arts Fair (SPAF).

Producer, Singer, Songwriter & Guitarist Tomas Doncker has been a mainstay on the New York music scene for over twenty years. He cut his teeth hanging out downtown in the fertile punk-funk explosion of the 1980s. He quickly found himself among the ranks of New York's groundbreaking musical elite. Hip Hop Artist Tyrant Ghostrida To Release Debut Album "Where Florida Begins" Early 2011

Hip Hop Artist Tyrant Ghostrida announced today that he will release his debut album "Where Florida Begins" in early 2011. He has already recorded seven songs, and is producing the album himself. The completed album is expected to have 25 tracks, and will be available for purchase at major online retailers.

Describing "Where Florida Begins" he said, "There are a lot of hip hop artists out there today, and it takes a lot to distinguish yourself from the rest. I'm able to do that because I possess the ability to do a vividly distinctive word play. It's just not the same sound that most other artists are putting out there and that people hear every day when they listen to hip hop. My music addresses issues that are common to everybody, and they will be able to relate to it.

Born Trenton Brooks in Jacksonville, Florida in 1983, Tyrant Ghostrida became interested in music at an early age as his elder brother Shadarrian was a member of the rap group Trespass. One day, while listening to them rehearse, they pulled him into a freestyle session with them and were amazed at the results. Brooks warmed the audience up for them for every performance from that point on. In 1997, he began his own quest to take making music much more seriously.

The year 2000 was a good one for the young artist as he did a recording called "Duval's Illest" which was produced by family member John Lumpkin, now a locally famed jazz percussionist. In 2001, he participated in the Terry Parker Senior High School talent show, where many more people began to take notice of him as a rapper. After graduation in 2002, he began to record more at home using Magix, Cool Edit Pro, and Fruity Loops.

He began receiving attention from small management groups within Jacksonville, but shortly thereafter, the crunk scene exploded and the interest gravitated in that direction. So, in 2004, he moved to Morganton, North Carolina and collaborated with the rapper Nappy on the song "904 To 828" which was popular in local night clubs. After moving back to Jacksonville in 2005, he made two songs "In Case You Forgot" featuring Young Menace, Lex Ruger and himself, and "Playboy Freestyle" which was a freestyle rap over New York hip hop artist Lloyd Bank's (now a part of G-Unit) song "Playboy" for the mix tape "The Village Mixtape" which was hosted by Young Menace. From there, Brooks started to work on an album entitled "The Reason Every Nigga Tries," but put the project on hold to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 2007. Currently serving until 2013 in Camp Pendleton, California, he is continuing to pursue both his music and naval career.

"I like making music because it's a way of allowing people to understand me better. It was introduced to me at a young age and it's something that I can do well enough to make it a career and express my creative side."

Brooks musical influences cross several music genres and include Stevie Wonder, Outkast, Little Brother, J. Cole, Scarface, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Dwele, Floetry, and Musiq Soulchild.

Indian Summer/Harvest Moon Comes To Brooklyn's Pete's Candy Store On September 7th

On September 7th, Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn will be transformed by singer/songwriter Maya Solovey into an ambiance and experience entitled "Indian Summer/Harvest Moon". Enjoy the tranquility of summer's transition to fall, and celebrate the beautiful full moon as it nears its equinox -- romantic and soothing. Not only will Solovey perform that night, she will be bringing her own home cooked food. Both the music and delicacies will relate to the "Indian Summer/Harvest Moon" theme. Commenting on how she selected the theme for that night, Solovey said, "At that time, we'll be holding on to the last grains and cornstalks of summer before we head into fall, so I wanted that night to have a sentimental lazy late summer feel to it. The mood will be soft, soothing, and warm with good old American traditions. And, this will be an opportunity for me to play a lot of songs that I don't usually get to play as all songs performed will be in English." Chris Massey's Latest Album Vibrainium Is Now Avaliable Through Spectra Jazz

Chris Massey is fast becoming one of the most talked about new faces in jazz today. Not only is he being heralded by such noted publications as Downbeat, All About Jazz, Jazzreview.com and various others as being a new force in jazz drumming but also as a prolific composer as well being compared to Jeff "Tain" Watts, Brian Blade, and Wayne Shorter.

Singer/Songwriter Maya Solovéy Brings Music & More During September Brooklyn Residency

Award winning singer/songwriter Maya Solovey has been invited to do a residency at Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn, New York. Maya will perform every Tuesday throughout September at 10:00 p.m. Bringing a new spin to the residency format, each performance will have a theme for the night, from Indian Summer/Harvest Moon to Instant Grati. To complement and theme, Maya will personally serve the audience with her own homemade finger foods, and mingle with the attendees prior to each show.

Born and raised in Monterey Park California, a small town just outside of Los Angeles, Joey began his career as most DJ's did. At age 13, he and some friends gathered whatever equipment and records they could get their hands on and spun their disks at local school dances and parties.
