ARTIST INFO

I will continue to cultivate myself, to get out of me what the Creator put in me, for the benefit of myself, my family, and my people. You have to love self before you can appreciate the God within. That's what this (in part) is all about. Enjoy!

ABOUT:
Jason Baldwin began writing, in earnest, at around the age of 18 after seeing that he actually had the ability to write. He mostly wrote in regard to school subjects, in college, learning skills and using them to prove points. Later, between the ages of 22-25, he began to write more seriously, and the topics were mostly related to subjects of Black people, consciousness and Black Liberation, along with some topics that had to deal with relationships. Jason never took any creative writing classes. His only brush with classes that had to do with writing was in college English. He finds himself to be most creative while driving, when he have more time to think and reflect on different things. He also finds that hearing an inspirational or motivational speech as well as being in creative environments, such as concerts, spoken word venues, or even just listening to some good music will put him in the right mood to write. Most of Jason's current writings are of empowerment! Even if they don't start off that way, they tend to turn back toward him trying to impart something spiritual, or something of principals. Jason gets inspired by his own thoughts, or what he sees and hears. He often wonders how this thing, called life, specifically his life, is going to turn out. He does not necessarily have a Muse, but, many of his pieces have been inspired by family and friends! He wrote a piece, about how he found out about his brother's murder, entitled, "REPAY YOUR DEBT TO ME", where he also talks about having feelings of retaliation. The piece, "TWO SHOTS TO THE TORSO", is about a friend of his whom he grew up with, who had at one time in his life so much promise. Also, one of his pieces entitled, "FELLOW SOLDIER", is about a Brother, a fellow Believer that Jason had worked with to spread the Teachings of Islam, who also passed away. Jason also has a piece entitled "PAPA", that is about his Grandfather, Ganzie Kale, who Jason says was a true man and the first real man, role model and male mentor in his life. He has also written several relationship pieces that talk about his failures like the one he calls, "YOUR FACE", which has to do with being reminded of a past love. In the immediate future, Jason hopes to gain the satisfaction of knowing that he has actually COMPLETED THIS PROJECT that has been a long time in the making. "The performances are just a part of that, for I have always dreamed about being "famous" for something that I did and writing has been the primary vehicle to making that possible." His main goal is to publish a book and record a CD for public distribution. "I would like to tour, with both the book and the CD, while also working some of the other creative markets, thereby expanding myself for my next project. I have always wanted to do some acting. Although, I have no formal training as an actor, I see the exposure of this talent that The Creator has given me, opening up doors for me to become more exposed to other forms of artistic expression, such as acting, but, not limited to acting! Writing (and subsequently performing) is very therapeutic for me. I have found that it has helped me to be more honest in my dealings with other people, because writing has allowed me to be honest first with myself. I have written this one piece entitled, "A KEY OBSERVATION", which is about a poetry venue where many different poets would come and put their gifts on display, and how their talent, and this place where they performed, had the potential to be the headquarters of a new revolution. And so, I wrote about the venue and many of the artists, and created a piece that had woven these artists into a kind of story of what they were on the verge of accomplishing in this venue. And I have had many people tell me how that piece really touched them in a positive way."
