KEEP REAL HIP HOP ALIVE!!!!
ABOUT:
Perseverance: to persist (as in an undertaking) in spite of difficulties. If you were to explain Mr. Seal's grind, this would be the only appropriate definition.
Mr. Seal's early childhood started in the Detroit area during the 1980's. Heavily influenced by the early Def Jam movement of Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J, a dream was born. Mr. Seal not only related to the rhythm and rhyme, but it became ingrained in his being. Realizing the need of a more promising future, his family relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1991. Mr. Seal by the age of 14 had an obsession with making pause tapes. "Dawg, I was a mixtape fiend. I would go to the reggae shop and cop New York mixtapes and make my own pause tapes. I was splicing DJ's scratches and juggles, freesylin' over instrumentals, using movie intros, whatever. I wanted to be 'Q' from 'Juice' so bad!" Mr. Seal's first set of turntables were the Gemini belt drives. Using quarters on the needles, an echo mic from Radio Shack, and a hand me down stereo, his pursuit began.
Practicing day and night, he began to realize the limitations of his system. Mr. Seal then got Gemini direct drive decks. "I started deejayin' anywhere I could. I was living in Raleigh, NC at the time. I was hittin' up house parties and dorm rooms at NCSU and Duke...wherever folks would let me set up." Moving back to South Carolina, he further pursued deejaying the local club circuit with a new set of Vestax PDX2000's. After setting up a home studio, he formed a group. As with many groups, this did not work out and he decided to go solo. In late 2004, Mr. Seal released "Mixed Emotions." The effort created a small local street buzz and very little industry response. "It showed potential, but it just wasn't there yet."
Enter.........."Man's Theory." "This album is it. I got Jesus in my heart and changed my life. Now it's all about this dream, man. I just wanna bring raw Hip Hop back to the forefront. Create it the way I fell in love with...pure." Every track is a heart felt mix of hard as steel, battle-quality punch lines to sincere vulnerability. And don't forget the soundscape. Driven by rare, dusty samples and keyboard orchestration, every cut is a Hip Hop cult classic.
