404: Error - File Not Found

Sorry:

the page you are looking for has not been found.

This does not mean that the information that you are looking for does not exist on our web site.

If you know what to look for, and how to go about it - you have a good chance of finding it.

Step One: Reload or refresh the page.
Sometimes this 404 - Page not found message was just a fluke.

Step Two: Did you type the link in yourself?
In that case check your spelling, make sure that the URL ends with .html (and not .htm as all our pages use .html).

Step Three: Related content is often grouped together.
Back up one level in the URL, and continue backing up until you find something.
For Example, say you were looking for:
http://www.scotborders.gov.uk/scrutiny/about/howdoes/monitoring.html
then try deleting monitoring.html from the address, so you're left with:
http://www.scotborders.gov.uk/scrutiny/about/howdoes/

If you don't come up with anything, you could try backing up again.

Step Four: Did you follow a link?
If the link you followed was from our site, please let us know. We will try to fix the broken link, and if you supply your e-mail address, point you in the direction of the information you were looking for. You can use our 'contact us' form.
Did you follow a link a from another site?
You may wish to go to our home page, and start your visit from the beginning - so to speak. If you have been to our site before, you may recognise our standard navigation links - available at the top and bottom all pages - to give you a head start in the right direction.

Step Five: Try our search
You could try using 'keywords' that you would expect to find in your document in our search engine - located in the top left corner of your screen.

Step Six : Try to find an archived version of the page.
Google offers an excellent 'cached' facility. Try searching Google (remembering to add site:www.scotborders.gov.uk to the search), and then use the 'cached' link instead of the usual link.

Why is the page missing?

A page could be missing for several reasons:

  • The page was out of date and removed. It may have been replaced with an up to date version.
  • The page could have been moved - all pages have were moved during our redesign.
We use a content management system to help us with this web site, and our broken links should be kept to a minimum.
