ABOUT:
Formed in early 2004, With These Words has been bringing their unique sound to the DFW and surrounding areas for nearly five years. Fronted by vocalist Jessi Golden and backed by guitarists Jake Stevens and Justin Golden, bassist Phil Sahs and drummer Michael Villarreal, With These Words manages blends each members various influences (from pop and punk to metal and hardcore). With These Words has been fortunate enough to share the stage with acts such as It Dies Today, God Forbid, Fair to Midland, Neverset and The Vanished. Over the years, the band has gone through several lineup changes, finally settling on the current lineup in December of 2007. With a new, solid, lineup, the band became an even stronger entity and started 2008 explosively, writing a completely new set of songs and re-inventing their sound in the process. With new material and a whole new attitude, With These Words decided that it was time to release a new album. The bands last release was 2005’s ‘Furthest Thing From Perfect’. Over time as the band grew, the songs from that EP were discarded for newer material. “Not having a follow up cd really hurt us,” says Jessi Golden. “People would come to shows and ask us about recordings but all we really had to offer was an EP of songs we didn’t play anymore and a few scratchy demos. We were growing as a band but had nothing to show for it.” The band chose to go with Grammy award winning producer Eric Delegard for the album. Once they got in to the studio though, the band realized that the few older songs they still had couldn’t stand alone with their newer, fresher sound. “We just weren’t in the same place with those (older) songs as we thought we were,” notes bassist Phil Sahs. “We immediately went in to writing mode and wrote three new songs for the album.” Three months later, the whole process was over and ‘The Science of Loss’ was finally ready to be released. “Everything just came together,” says Michael Villarreal. “Personally, over the past few years, we’ve all gone through some really big changes in our lives. There was no way that those things were not going to come out in the music, and I really think that you can hear all of it in these songs.”
